      • Foshan is in the south-central part of Guangdong Province, in the inland portion of the Pear River Delta. Situated where East Asia and Southeast Asia converge, Foshan is about 20 kilometers (12 miles) away from Guangzhou - about one hour's drive. And it's only about a two-hour drive to Hong Kong or Macau. Advantageous location and convenient transportation complement the development of Foshan's various industries, especially the tourist trade.

      Because of the short distance from Foshan to Guangzhou, people usually get in and out of Foshan by air through Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport. No passenger services are available in Foshan Airport at present, but airport express bus lines make it easy for visitors to Foshan to get to and from the Guangzhou airport. There are also two railway stations operating passenger services, the Foshan Railway Station and the Sanshui Railway Station. The Foshan Railway Station has several trains a day running to big and medium cities nationwide. Long-distance bus lines and city-bus lines are well developed. In addition, Foshan has 226 ports and docks. Three of them provide passenger transport service. In the near future, Foshan will also have subway trains joining the network between Foshan and Guangzhou.

      Getting There

      By Air

      If you wish to get to Foshan by air, the Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport (CAN) should be your choice, as passenger transport services are not available yet in Foshan. It is about one hour's drive from downtown Foshan to Guangzhou. There are express lines running from the Foshan Bus Station directly to Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport. The first run from Foshan Bus Station starts at 05:00 and the last at 21:00, while the first and the last run begin from the airport respectively at 06:00 and 22:30. All in all 33 buses are dispatched daily with a departure interval of 30 minutes. The whole ride takes about one hour and a half costing CNY 28.

      By Train

      It is convenient to get to Foshan by train. The city is connected with the national railway network via the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang Railway. Several trains stop at Foshan Railway Station on their way to many large and medium cities such as Guangzhou, Kowloon, Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming, Chongqing, and Nanning. Each day, dozens of trains complete the trip from Guangzhou to Foshan in less than one hour. The ticket price is about CNY 10. One train departs Kowloon at 12:30 for Foshan. The trip takes about three hours, and tickets cost CNY 33 (hard seat) or CNY 50 (soft seat).

      By Long-distance Bus

      Foshan has hundreds of inter-town and inter-province bus lines. There are also lines to the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong. Apart from the Foshan Bus Station, Foshan also has other bus stations in other districts of the city.

      Located in Fenjiang Zhong Road, Chancheng District, Foshan Bus Station is the main terminal for Foshan's bus service. It operates inter-province lines to many cities in Hunan, Jiangxi, Hainan, Fujian, Zhejiang, and Henan provinces. Bus lines to most cities in Guangdong Province are also available.

      In addition, visitors can take through buses to Hong Kong from the Foshan Hotel and the Chancheng Hotel. Every day, three buses respectively depart at 09:00, 14:30, and 16:00 from the Foshan Hotel and at 09:05, 14:35, 16:05 from the Chancheng Hotel and arrive in Hong Kong in four hours. The ticket charge is HKD 150 (CNY 147). These two hotels are both located in Fenjiang Road, within ten minutes drive from the Foshan Railway Station and the Foshan Bus Station. Another bus to Hong Kong from the Golden City Hotel in No.48 Fenjiang Nan Road departs at 14:00 and costs HKD100 (CNY 98).

      From the No.31, North of Foshan Avenue where the Foshan Tourist Corporation is located, visitors can take two hours and a half from Foshan to Macau leaving at 07:30 for HKD70 (CNY 69).

      By Water

      Going to Foshan by boat is a wonderful idea, as visitors can admire the scenery along the river. Located in the back portion of the Pearl River Delta, waterway transportation has always been crucial to the transportation industry of the city. There are seventy-six waterways in Foshan creating an inland shipping route of over 1,350 kilometers (839 miles). Many of the ports in its five districts have been integrated into the Port of Foshan. It plays an important role in freight, but its passenger transport function has always been small. Now, there are three ports offering passenger transport services: the Gaoming Port, the Pingzhou Port, and the Shunde Port. Their business lines mainly focus on the Foshan-Hong Kong routes.

      Getting Around

      By City-bus

      Foshan's city bus system is well designed. It has over two hundred bus lines. The ticket price for a city bus in Chancheng District is CNY 2, while trips to other districts are charged according to distance, generally ranging from CNY 2 to CNY 10.

      Apart from the ordinary public buses, Foshan Intercity Bus Terminal also has bus lines running between the five districts of Foshan City, such as lines from Chancheng District to Gaoming, Shunde and Sanshui districts, as well as a line from Nanhai District to Shunde District. The service is usually available from 06:00 to 20:30, and the through fare ranges from CNY 6 to CNY 12. Visitors can take buses No.31, 25, 28 to the bus terminal in No.3-5, Sizhi Road, Chancheng District.

      In addition, five special tourist lines recently began operating in Foshan. They take visitors back and forth between the main points of interest in the city, which makes it very easy for them to see the main attractions of the city:

      By Taxi

      During the day, the taxi fare is CNY 7 for the first two kilometers (1.2 miles). An additional fee of CNY 2.6 is charged for each additional kilometer within eight kilometers (5 miles), and CNY 2.8 is charged for every kilometer beyond eight kilometers. In addition, an extra CNY 1 for fuel is charged once if the distance is beyond two kilometers.

      From 22:00 to 07:00 the next morning or on holidays, the taxi fee remains the same as in daytime. However, whenever taking a taxi, visitors pay CNY 1 for every two and a half minutes of waiting time. In addition, the passengers pay for any tolls.

      Chui trip on the lake
