Lincang City
(simplified Chinese: 临沧, pinyin: Lincāng) is a prefecture-level city,With Lancang ( Mekong ) River to the east, Lincang region is located in the Southwest of Yunnan. It borders Myanmar and includes eight counties, including the only two Wa Autonomous Counties in Yunnan --- Cangyuan and Ximeng, occupying 50% of the total population of Wa nationality in Yunnan.

Lincang City is one of the less visited areas in Yunnan.It does not have any monuments,but offersa a gorgeous scenery.The Lincang Snow Mountain and Yongde Snow Mountain are both more than 3000 meters above the sea level.Depending the altitude,the region lies in the tropical and sub-tropical climatic zones and is blessed with a great variety of plant and animals.

Lincang City alone boasts 3700 kinds of trees and 3000 medical plants.Among other animals still prowling in the borderland jungles arethe wild elephant,tiger,clouded leopard,pangolin,red panda and lemur.

The Wa minority lives along the Myanmar frontier,and the Dai in the plains,several other ethnic groups make their homes in the area.

Lincang Snow Mountain

Lincang Snow Mountain, an official provincial scenic area, covering a total area of 110 square kilometers, consists of 18 smaller zones such as Snow Mountain River, the Master Stone, Asalea Forest, and Yellow Grass Plain.

Yongde Snow Mountain

Yongde Snow Mountain is located in Yongde County. It is also an official provincial scenic spot, consisting of the Snow Mountain area, the Soil Forest area, Tangli Hills --- Guanyin (Budhisattva) Cave, as well as the Nandahe road. The entire region occupies a total area of 174 square kilometers. The major scenic areas are the Primeval Forest, the Azalea area, the Sleeping Buddha, the ancient cliff paintings, the ancient stone relief, the Hot Spring Karst Cave, and the Wa People Village. It is not only a place for tourists, but also a place for scientific research.

Cangyuan Cliff Fresco

Cangyuan Cliff Fresco is one of the oldest cliff frescos ever discovered in China. There were 11 Cliff frescos discovered in 1965, 1978 and 1981 respectively. The frescos, each with an average width of three meters, were drawn on the faces of vertical limestone cliffs, at an average height of ten meters above the ground. The size of each image varies from 0.3 meter to 0.05 meter. Today, 1063 images have been identified, including the likenesses of people, animals, houses, roads, caves, boats, trees, the sun and fingerprints. Most of the images depict scenes of hunting, gathering, dancing and war. It has been determined that these cliff frescos were created towards the end of the Neolithic age more than three thousand years ago. The Cangyuan cliff frescos, which have been classified as a precious cultural relic of Yunnan, are a valuable legacy from our primative past and still await further study.

Lincang County is about 600 km from Kunming. Bus service to Lincang is available from any bus station in Kunming.
