The worst snowstorm on record has ravaged Tibet from Oct 26, and the death toll has risen to seven, said the local authorities on Thursday.

Up to yesterday, Shannan, Nyingchi, Chamdo, Nagqu and Xigaze have been heavily affected, and over 3,000 have been trapped.

The heavy snowstorm knocked out telecommunications and traffic in Tibet. The Sichuan-Tibet road was blocked due to the heavy storm on October 27. By October 30, the three state highways 318, 317 and 214 have resumed traffic. The state highway 109 was still under reparation.

More than 1,700 people have been shifted to safe areas. The rescue operation is still underway.
