The tourism industry was partly affected by the earthquake in Sichuan.Fortunately, some world heritage survived the disaster. During the Dragon Boat Festival 2008,some of the staff in CTE and their families went to MT.Emei, the world natural and cultural heritage for the tourism survery after the 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake.
We were happily to find that the tourism facilities and the tourism resources there were almost affected nothing by the earthquake. The expressway connecting Chengdu and Emeishan city are still in good operation. It takes only about 2 hours driving from Chengdu to the foot of Mt.Emei.The roads in the scenery area remain in very good condition as well. The pollution free sightseeing buses and the cable cars operate with no difference as before. We have asked the local tourism adminstrative bureau and the clerk there told us that on Jun. 7 there were about 2,000 visitors coming to Mt.Emei and the numbers came to 6,000 the next day.
We came across a big tour group from the USA while we were on the way from the Qingyin Pavilion to the Wannian monastery. We felt their love of this mountain and they said Mt.Emei survived the earthquake so well which was out of their expectation.
